RESUME
Michel Bejar was born in Lyon and studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique et de Danse de Lyon. On graduation he joined the Jeune Ballet de France VI and in 1989 the Badishes Staats Theater Karlsruhe under the direction of Germinal Casado. He was promoted to demi-soloist and performed leading roles in several ballets from the company repertoire including works by G. Casado, G. Balanchine, Th.Malandain.
He joined the Ballet de l'Opéra National du Rhin in 1996 under the direction of Jean-Paul Gravier (1996-98) and B.D'At (1998-02). Under these two Directors, he performed a large repertoire as a soloist.
After seven successful years, he decided to leave the company to join the Ballet de l'Opéra de Nice where he created his first choreographic work Départs.
While his a member of the Ballet d'Europe in 2003 he obtained his degree of ballet teacher and started to coach and teach. He also increased his output of choreographic works through workshops organized and performed by the company.
In 2006, he began his freelance career by teaching in different companies and taking part in various projects around the world as a performer, choreographer, director and teacher.
He choreographs and directs Lady Macbeth at the Shanghai International Dance Festival and collaborates with Germaine Acogny at the French Cultural Center in Dakar. Invited as a teacher and choreographer at the National Conservatory of Ljubjana and at Chung-Ang University in South Korea, he developed and refined his teaching approach and consolidated his reputation as a guest teacher and choreographer
In September 2008, the artistic director of the Royal Swedish Ballet offered him a position as Ballet Master within his artistic team but after four years of collaboration with the Royal Swedish Ballet he returned to freelance activity in March 2012 by taking part on the European tour of the Ballets Jazz de Montréal, before accepting the position of Ballet Master at the Aalto Ballett Theater Essen in Germany. In 2014, the management entrusted him with the creation of the ballet which closed the gala evening on the theme of the Fête des Plaisirs de Versailles at the Aalto Theater Essen, Plaisirs.
Since July 2016 Michel Béjar started his freelance activities being part of several artistic projects as Choreographic assistant, guest teacher, stage director and choreographer. He staged La Traviata for the Opus Opéra Festival in 2017. He has been as well the choreographic assistant of Emio Greco and Pieter Scholten for the creation Non Solo Medea with the Ballet National de Marseille, performed in Pompei and Vaison la Romaine during the summer 2018.
In the fall of 2021 he created his version of the ballet Corsair for the Balet Národního Divadla Moravskoslezského in a completely revisited version based on an original libretto by Céline Barcaroli.
His last creation Houdini the greatest created for the Delattre Dance Company was presented at the Gallus Theater in Frankfurt on March 2024 and at the Mainzer Kammerpiele Theater in Germany in June 2024.
Michel Bejar is resident choreographer of La Compagnie Pantai with whom is closely collaborating on artistic creations, educational and social projects.
